ESL, Dual Language, & World Languages Curriculum Design

World Language Curriculum Design: After 3 years without a curriculum guide for teachers of World Langauges, I developed a curriculum team to create curriculum for these courses. With a small group of 6 team members, we developed and wrote a standards-aligned curriculum as well as FlexBooks (digital textbooks) that are developed to be updated as needed over time, reducing costs and improving district efficiency.

ESOL Summer Curriculum Design: To address a client need, my team developed a summer course to support clients who were in danger of not graduating from our programs. This course provided 36 weeks of instruction through an intensive 6 week course that provided students with significantly more course hours and ensured that they would be successful in passing state assessments. The curriculum for this course was developed collaboratively and involved cross-functional teamwork.

Dual Language Curriculum Design & Advocacy: A significant part of my career has been focused on advocating for populations that are traditionally underserved. This project speaks directly to that responsibilty. As an early adopter of Dual Language Instruction at the secondary level, my team was tasked with writing a comprehensive resource curriculum that was aligned with state and local standards as well as best practices detailed in Dual Language Research. After advocating for a significant budget, this project provided the first wholistic secondary dual language curriculum for my district including all content areas and providing readings, activities, presentations, resources for instructional technology, vocabulary exercises, metalinguistic practices and connections with other client resources. In addition, this project was aligned with a second project of assessment design, which allowed teachers to connect their instruction directly to state standards-based assessments for student practice.
